Windows 7 backup is there for backwards compatibility still, but not really supported for new backups.

If you need a full disk image backup (and have the wherewithal to perform a bare metal recovery with confidence) Microsoft recommends use of third party solutions. Note that File History (and it's replacement, OneDrive Folder Backup) is about backing up your irreplaceable data, not the OS or applications, since these can be easily reinstalled from the web or the Store. (This is a good idea anyway, since then these folders are then also automatically included in Windows Search.) (You also will no longer find it by searching for "backup" in Windows Settings.) The easy work around for this is to add folders you want included in the backup to the appropriate Library. The basic change is that you can no longer add random folder locations to Windows File History it only backs up your Windows Libraries. Windows File history still works fine though, even if it has been simplified (and deemphasized) in Windows 11. I keep all my documents and pictures on OneDrive these days via OneDrive Folder Backup, and so no longer use File History.
